Professor Ledjan Malaj, founder of Akademia e Farmacisë “Eureka”, is responsible for the Pharmaceutical Technology course at the University of Medicine, Tirana, Department of Pharmacy. He currently heads this Department; he previously served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and as head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy.
A full-time lecturer since the 2001–2002 academic year, he has made a substantial academic and professional contribution to the pharmaceutical sector and services in the Republic of Albania, the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of North Macedonia. He belongs to the generation that, at the beginning of the 21st century, chose to return to Albania to contribute to the great systemic changes in the country and the region. Today he is one of the most prominent figures in Pharmaceutical Technology in South-Eastern Europe, with collaborations across many European Union countries.
He studied at the University of Camerino in Italy, where he graduated “Dottore in Farmacia” con lode, and later earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology with the highest distinction. He spent exchange periods as a doctoral student at the University of Lille II in France, and remains engaged in exchange programmes as a Visiting Professor at universities in EU countries.
Professor Malaj is a Clinical Auditor certified by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, a Quality Assessment Expert for the Ministry of Education, and an active member of the special commissions of the Order of Pharmacists.
His published books include: Pharmaceutical Technology 1 and 2 (textbooks for pharmacy students, University of Medicine, Tirana, 2021–2022); Receptura Magjistrale dhe Galenike (Prishtina 2016, second edition, ISBN 978-9951-426-46-6); Manual i Përgatitjeve Galenike (Tirana 2016, ISBN 978-9928-134-82-0); Receptura Magjistrale dhe Galenike (Prishtina 2007).
He is the author and co-author of dozens of international publications and has supported the organisation of numerous regional and national conferences.
